Trojans ground Eagles, 37-24

SACO — Olivia Shaw scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Thornton Academy beat visiting Windham 37-24 in an SMAA girls basketball game at Linnell Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

Katie McCrum added 10 points and Abby Strickland collected 10 rebounds for the Trojans (9-1).

Sadie Nelson scored a team-high 10 points for the Eagles (8-3), who were held scoreless in the third quarter.

SOUTH PORTLAND 57, BIDDEFORD 24

SOUTH PORTLAND — Mackenzie Bowring scored a team-high 10 points as part of a balanced offense as host South Portland routed Biddeford 57-24 at Beal Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

The Red Riots (8-3), who had nine different players score, took an 18-4 lead after one quarter and never looked back.

Carissa Gelinas scored a team-high 10 points for the Tigers (2-9), and Kendra Cote pitched in with eight.

SOUTH PORTLAND 57, BIDDEFORD 48

BIDDEFORD — The Biddeford boys basketball team had its closest game in over a month, but still was left searching for its first win of the season after a 57-48 loss to South Portland at Tiger Gym on Tuesday.

The final margin was the closest for the young Tigers since a three-point loss to Massabesic on Dec. 13.

Biddeford (0-11) tied the game early in the third quarter with three 3-pointers after trailing by eight at halftime, but couldn’t hold onto the momentum.

Corey Creeger scored a game- and career-high 28 points ”“ including four 3-pointers ”“ for the Tigers.

Jaren Muller led the Red Riots (5-5) with 23 points.
