
Sammie was born in Toronto, Canada. She attended local schools and graduated from Tilton Prep in New Hampshire.
After attending Colby Sawyer College, she moved to southern Maine, where she received her degree in behavioral science from Southern Maine Community College.
Most recently, she worked at York County Corrections in Alfred.
She enjoyed crafts, rollerblading, lunch dates, softball and attending her children’s sporting events.
Sammie is survived by: her husband, Cash Cates of Biddeford; daughters Amethyst Hersom of Portland and Cassidy Cates of Kennebunk; sons Bailey and C.J. Thorne of Biddeford, Cameron Cates of Biddeford and Ajay Cates of Hollis; and her mother, brothers and sisters.
Private services will be held by the family.
