Vienna artist is People’s Choice at Harlow Gallery

Ross Grams of Vienna won the People’s Choice Award at Art2011, the 16th annual juried art show at the Harlow Gallery. Visitors were invited to vote for a favorite work of art.

Grams won $100, sponsored by the Animal Wellness Center of Augusta, for his oil painting “Under the Barn.”

Pamela Hetherly of New Vernon won second place for her oil painting “Post Office Cafe Stir.” Hetherly will receive a gift membership to the Kennebec Valley Art Association, the nonprofit organization that owns and operates the Harlow Gallery.

‘The Saco River’ author to deliver slide lecture

David Robinson, author of “The Saco River,” will give a slide lecture for the Hiram Historical Society at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The book is illustrated with 200 postcards from the author’s collection from 1905 to 1940, when postcards were especially popular. The book will be on sale at the event to benefit the Hiram Historical Society.

Also on view will be an exhibition of postcards in the Hiram Historical Society’s collection, “Going Postal: Postcards To, From, and About Hiram.” Postcards of the Saco River will be included.

The lecture will be at Great Ossipee Museum, 20 Historical Ridge, at the corner of Route 117 and Schoolhouse Road, next to the fire department.

L/A Arts Gallery 5 seeks entries for summer shows

L/A Arts Gallery 5 is accepting submissions for two exhibitions this summer.

“Say It With Color” is open to all art media, but the deadline is today for the exhibition that will run from July 22 to Aug. 20. Artists are encouraged to express their colors.

“The Art of Fiber” is a new venture for Gallery 5. This show will be limited to works created with plant, animal or synthetic fibers. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional work will be accepted.

The deadline is July 10. The exhibit opens Aug. 26 and runs through Sept. 24.

Gallery 5 accepts submissions from all Maine artists, both full-time and summer residents. Submission forms and guidelines are online at www.laarts.org.

Freeport Players to hold auditions for ‘The Foreigner’

Freeport Players has announced auditions for Larry Shue’s comedy “The Foreigner” from 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 26 and 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 27 at Freeport High School cafeteria on Holbrook Street.

There are principal roles for five men and two women, and ensemble roles for six men and women.

Actors should be prepared to cold-read from the script, and likely will be asked to try Southern or British accents, or both. Visit fcponline.org/auditions or call 865-2220.

The Moore Park Art Show is accepting applications for food vendors, community groups and artist’s booths. The Aug. 13 show will feature 50 artist exhibitors and live entertainment.
