From the Journal Tribune: “Benjamin Russell Rumney, 4, of Shapleigh, gripped the big fire hose and aimed it high, sending a cascade of water into the trees. He had a little help from adult firefighters, who were standing behind him with a firm grip on the hose.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Two deaths and injuries to three other persons were the outcome of a motorcycle and automobile accident at 2:20 this morning on Fletcher Street here. Two people on the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene, while individuals in the car were seriously injured and taken to various hospitals for their particular injuries.”
100 years ago
From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Sunday afternoon around 4:30 o’clock there was a rear-end collision of electric cars on the Biddeford & Saco line on the Old Orchard road, not far from the residence of Alexander Kirkwood, which is considerable glass was broken and several passengers were shaken up with bruises and somewhat. One car was following another, on the way to Biddeford from Old Orchard. The leading car stopped to let off passengers and the following car, unable to stop because of wet and slippery weather, crashed hard from behind.”
