KENNEBUNK — The Kennebunk boys lacrosse team slammed visiting York 21-5 in the Class B South quarterfinals Wednesday afternoon.

Spencer Thibodeau and Donovan Connor led the No. 3 Rams with five goals each, while Bo Beveridge scored three. Camden Connor and Cameron Lovejoy scored two each as well.

Brenden Whitten, Jesse Lacasse, Dante DeLorenzo and Patrick Gassman each scored one.

Kennebunk coach Dan Seavey is thrilled to see his team peaking at the right time.

“We’re coming off of some really good practices and really good games so we’re just trying to stay in a groove and get a little better. Things were clicking for us and we did what we were supposed to do and things worked out well for us,” said Seavey.

The Rams exploded from the gate, outscoring the Wildcats 8-1 in the first quarter.

Gassman scored just 1:20 into the match, but York’s Charles Leroux tied the game less than a minute later. Kennebunk would then receive two goals from both Thibodeau and Beveridge, along with goals from Lacasse, Connor and Lovejoy to give the Rams the big lead.

York, which came in as the sixth seed, struck first in the second quarter on a goal from Sam Desmarais, but the Rams responded by going on a 9-0 run to close out the half.

Kennebunk’s goals in the second were scored by Donovan Connor with four, then DeLorenzo, Thibodeau, Lovejoy, Camden Connor and Whitten with one apiece.

Seavey felt that a fast start was key in his team’s win.

“It’s important. Every game you want to go out and take the first shot and get up a couple of goals … the kids did that today and put a few shots in the net,” said Seavey.

York managed to slow down the game in the third quarter, with the Rams outscoring them 3-2. York’s two goals were scored by DesMarais and Brett Smith, while Thibodeau scored twice and Beveridge once.

Each team scored once in the final quarter. Camden Connor scored for Kennebunk, while Ryan Simpson scored for York.

Although the Rams won big, Seavey still sees room for improvement as the playoffs progress.

“There are a couple of little things – we need to be faster with a few things and we need to be tighter,” said Seavey. “There are just a few fine tuning things I’d like to see, but the kids are playing pretty well right now.”

The Rams hope to finish the season off strong, while staying focused on the goals at hand.

“We need to stay where we are, the biggest thing is our mentality,” said Seavey. “We need to keep them here and checked in and improving every day. It’s hard to keep them on that level but it’s about keeping them there and sailing through the playoffs.”
