BIDDEFORD — Maine House of Representatives candidate Donna Flanagan has announced her withdrawal from the race for a seat in District 12, citing health concerns.
Flanagan, a Republican, was uncontested in the June 14 primary for her party’s nomination for the district, which covers part of Biddeford. She would have faced off against Incumbent Democrat Martin Grohman, who is also uncontested, in the November general election and Matt Lauzon running as an Independent.
“For health reasons, I’ve withdrawn and I’m sorry,” Flanagan said on Sunday. “I had to make a decision to pull out because of my health reasons, and because of that, I’ve put the Republican Party in a bad position.”
Flanagan, Lauzon and Grohman are from Biddeford.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
