OLD ORCHARD BEACH — A grant established to assist creative, visual and performing arts teachers throughout Saco, Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach is now accepting applications.
The Arts Action Fund was created by the Saco Bay Center for Civic Engagement to help arts-based classrooms. Beginning in the 2016-2017 school year, Fine Arts teachers can use the grant to enrich the quality of education of local students.
This could be used for anything from a broken musical instrument repair job to a new stage curtain and everything in between. This past March, the Center raised $1,500 at their Kidz Winter Jamboree Concert at Thornton Academy to fund three $500 grant projects.
The application can be found at SacoBayCenter.org and the deadline is June 1. For more information contact Justin Chenette at 590-3266 or [email protected].

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
