PORTLAND — The Thornton Academy boys and girls tennis teams had an impressive day at Saturday’s MPA States Singles Qualifier as five Trojans secured a trip to the state tournament.

The TA boys went a perfect 3-for-3 on Saturday as Viktor Schwarz, Dariy Vyhodstev and Jack Xiao all punched their tickets to the state tournament.

Schwarz, who was the seventh seed, clinched his spot with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Yarmouth’s Andrei Lougovtdov.

Vyhodstev proved he was worthy of the second seed as he beat Biddeford’s Alex Millett 6-1, 6-0 to secure his trip to states.

Xiao came in as the No. 13 seed and earned a trip to states with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Gorham’s Connor Sweatt.

The TA girls will be represented by Eva Sachs and Grace Pickering at the state singles tournament, which begins on Friday, May 27.

Sachs, who was the No. 11 seed, earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Biddeford’s Sydney Walton to punch her ticket to states.

Pickering would pick up a 6-4, 6-2 upset win over No. 13 Madeline Abbott to earn a trip to states.

Also earning a trip to states was Kennebunk/Wells’ Rosemary Campanella, who picked up a 6- 0, 6-0 win over Windham’s Sarah Webb.

The Thornton Academy girls lacrosse team picked up a win over host Lewiston on Saturday morning.

The visiting Trojans jumped out to a 7-1 halftime lead and outscored Lewiston 3-2 in the second half.

Jules Grondin led TA with four goals and Faith Sinclair added two goals in the win.

TA would also get goals from Hannah McAlary, Alanna Pettaway, Amanda Cyr and Cat Henaire.

The Trojans will host Biddeford on Tuesday.

Kennebunk 15, Messalonskee 2

The homesteading Rams got four goals and two assists from both Carly Sandler and Jenny Bush as they improved to 6-0 on the season.

Gabby Fogg chipped in with two goals and one assist and Kristen Koch added two goals to help the Rams hand Messalonskee its first loss.

Kennebunk goalie Isabella Kudas stopped five shots in the win.

Morse 11, Biddeford 8

The Tigers fell to undefeated Morse on Saturday.

Paige Laverriere led Biddeford with four goals.

Biddeford, which dropped to 5-2 with the loss, will visit Thornton Academy on Tuesday.

Thornton Academy 8, Marshwood 2

The visiting Trojans got a big game from Brogan Searle-Belanger as they picked up their eighth win of the season.

Searle-Belanger picked up the win on the mound and also had three hits at the plate for TA.

The Trojans (8-1) scored six runs in the fourth inning as they pulled away for the win.

Lewiston 20, Biddeford 9

On Friday, the Biddeford Tigers dropped a road game in the rain.

Biddeford was led by Cody Sevingy with five goals and John Gilliam with two goals.

Colby Plante and Gavon Powers also scored goals for the Tigers, who got 15 saves from goalie Corey Day.
