PORTLAND — The Kennebunk girls lacrosse team improved to 3-0 on the season with a dominating 13-3 win over Waynflete on Wednesday.
The Rams were led by Jenny Bush with six goals and one assist and Carly Sandler with five assists.
Kennebunk’s defense played a big role in Wednesday’s win, according to Kennebunk coach Annie Barker.
“Waynflete did not score until the last eight minutes of the game … basically we shut them down with our defense,” said Barker, who pointed out several standout performers. “Gabby Fogg had a ton of knockdowns, which caused turnovers, Cara Small was great on the crease, no one could score on her and Hallie (Schwartzman) was tenacious (along) with Olivia (Sandford).”
Kennebunk would get two goals and two assists from Kyra Schwartzman, while Sandford added two goals and one assist and both Hallie Schwartzman and Fogg added one goal in the win.
Isabella Kudas stopped six shots in the cage for Kennebunk, which will host Greely on Friday night.
Biddeford 18, McAuley 5
The host Tigers jumped out to a 13-3 halftime lead and never looked back as they improved to 3-1 on the season.
Camryn McKeown led the way for Biddeford with five goals and one assist. Taylor Turgeon added four goals and three assists and Missy Huot ended the game with four assists and three goals.
The Tigers would also get two goals and two assists from Peyton McKeown and both Paige Laverriere and Hailey Allen scored one goal apiece.
Eliza Gilliam and Ella McKenzie combined for seven saves for the Tigers, who will be back on the field today when Sanford visits Waterhouse Field.
Kaeli Leddy led McAuley with two goals in the loss.
Fryeburg 12, Wells 4
The Warriors dropped a road decision at Fryeburg Academy on Wednesday.
Aimely Michaud-Nolan led Wells with three goals and Laney O’Brien added one goal in the loss.
Wells will travel to York on Saturday.
Softball
Noble 14, Westbrook 1 (5 innings)
The Noble Knights bounced back from Tuesday’s loss to Biddeford in a big way as they cruised to a five-inning win on Wednesday.
Shaughnessey Gower would go the distance in the circle, striking out five and allowing just two hits, while also helping her- self at the plate with a double and a single.
Tyler Chastney finished the game with three singles and Marisa Cipola added two singles and a double for the Knights, who also got two singles from Jordan Boucher.
Noble (3-3) will host Marshwood today.
Windham 10, Sanford 5
The visiting Eagles got a strong performance from starting pitcher Danielle Tardiff, who finished the game with 14 strikeouts, as they picked up a win at Sanford.
Windham jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first and would never trail.
Jen Jones led Sanford with two hits and Nicole Main, Julia Allen, Lauren Thompson and Morgan Coleman all added one hit.
Wells 17, Poland 5 (5 innings)
Visiting Poland scored three runs in the top of the first, but the Warriors would score at least one run in all five innings as they cruised to the win.
Olivia Clay and Karissa Kenyon led the way for Wells with four hits and three RBIs apiece. Angela Leone added two hits and three RBIs.
Kenyon picked up the win in the circle and Anya Chase closed out the final two innings for Wells.
The Warriors will host Traip Academy on Friday.
Fryeburg Academy 14, Kennebunk 2
Hot bats powered visiting Fryeburg Academy passed Kennebunk Wednesday afternoon.
Both of the Rams runs were scored in the first inning, coming off of consecutive singles by Britney Gregoire, Malori Cole, Lindsey Gregoire and Allie Gregoire.
Sydney Waitt got the start, pitching 2 2/3 innings, while Kylie Depeu pitched the final 2 1/3 in relief.
Girls Tennis
Scarborough 4, Thornton Academy 1
Visiting Scarborough beat TA with two singles wins and two doubles wins. Grace Pickering was the lone winner for the Trojans, as she won in two sets, 6-0 and 6-2. Eva Sachs fell 6-0, 6-2, while Andrea Kucharova lost 6-0, 6-4.
TA’s doubles pair of Emma Nassif and Cordelia Perry fell in two sets 6-2, 3-6, while Pilar Salcedo and Claudia De La Haz Garcia fell 6-1, 6-2.
Gorham 5, Sanford 0
The Spartans were shut out by visiting Gorham Wednesday afternoon.
Corrinne Laurance fell 6-1, 6-0, while both Alli Plante and Marissa Pond lost 6- 0, 6-0.
Sanford’s doubles team of Alana Parison and Hannah Miller lost 6-0, 6-0, while Kim Works and Emilee Mathieu fell 6-0, 6-1.
