Over 600 juniors and seniors at Thornton Academy witnessed a graphic, emotional and realistic portrayal of a fatal car accident on April 27 during Red Ribbon Awareness Week. The “Fatal Reality” incident involved participation from Biddeford Saco Rotary Club, police and fire departments in Saco and Old Orchard Beach, Saco Police Explorers and Junior Firefighters, Dennett and Craig Funeral Home, and Lifeflight of Maine. Students served as actors for the mock accident, with the exception of a parent who portrayed the parent of the deceased. After the exercise, there was a Q&A assembly. Biddeford High School will hold its “Fatal Reality” event in the coming weeks to coincide with prom and raising awareness around healthy choices.
