PORTLAND (AP) — Democratic U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree is in Cuba where she’ll be joined by a group of American organic food producers and advocates.

Pingree plans to meet today with the head of the U.S. embassy in Havana. She’ll also be joined by other members of the American delegation.

Pingree says her goal for the trip is to get a foot in the front door as the U.S. normalizes relations with Cuba. The group will meet with Cuba’s agriculture minister, tour farms and restaurants, and talk about opportunities for trade.

This isn’t Pingree’s first visit to Cuba. She visited in 2003 with a delegation traveling under the educational umbrella of the University of Southern Maine.
