BIDDEFORD — Before the 2016 girls lacrosse season even started, Biddeford senior Taylor Turgeon had already played her way into the school record books – and secured her legacy as one of the best players to ever compete for the Tigers.

On Saturday, the standout added to her impressive resume as Turgeon scored five goals to push her career total to 65, which moves her to the top of Biddeford’s all-time scoring list.

“It’s nothing like I ever would have imagined,” said Turgeon of breaking the school’s scoring record. “Thinking back to freshman year, I never even thought this was possible, so I’m ecstatic for myself and ecstatic for my team.”

For Turgeon, it was an unbelievable feeling to capture another school record – she already had the BHS assist record – but it was an even better feeling to help the Tigers pick up a 20-4 win over visiting Oxford Hills.

“The program has come a long way and I’m proud to be a part of it,” said Turgeon. “I never want to be considered more than the team. I just always want to be a part of it … to have such a team win, while also getting this record, is so incredibly great.”

Biddeford coach Caitlin Albert was thrilled to see Turgeon break the school record, which was at 63 goals before Saturday.

“It’s exciting, it’s good to see,” said Albert. “I have been lucky enough to coach her in field hockey and lacrosse all of her four years, so eight seasons with her, it’s going to be a huge loss next year, but I’m glad to see her succeed and just be a part of it.”

Albert believes Turgeon has proven to be a great leader for the Tigers.

“She’s kind of like one of those silent leaders. She’s quiet and she leads by example and she speaks when she has to speak. She is any coach’s dream player,” said Albert. “She really steps up when she needs to, but other than that, she likes the team to play as a team and she’s not one to yell. She’s been fabulous.”

Albert provided plenty of advice during her quest for the school record, according to Turgeon.

“She just told me to keep working for it. Obviously, keep the team in mind and don’t focus too much on personal goals, but she has always had faith in me, she’s always like, ‘you got this, you got this.’ She never lost faith,” said Turgeon.

Turgeon’s five goals was tied for the team lead on Saturday as teammate Paige Laverriere also scored five times.

The Tigers would also get three goals from both Missy Huot and Camryn McKeown and Hailey Allen, Grace Boisvert, Mia LaFlamme and Rebekah Guay all had one goal in the win.

Now that the scoring record is out of the way, Turgeon is hoping to help the Tigers make a deep playoff run in her final season.

“Our first goal is to get a home playoff game, but obviously just make playoffs, get as far as we can, build as a team and as a unit,” said Turgeon.

The Tigers, who are now 2-1 on the season, will host McAuley today.
