SACO — A double dose of positively took the stage Saturday afternoon at Kidz Winter Jamboree in Thornton Academy’s Garland Auditorium.

Biddeford’s Rob Duquette and another Maine musician, Rick Charette, played a 45- minute show of children’s songs as a benefit for Saco Bay Center of Civic Engagement’s Arts Action Fund. The new grant program provides funding for art supplies in Saco, Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach schools beginning in the 2016-17 school year.

“We’re friends, and we love music,” said Charette. “It’s so great to be here.”

The two musicians alternately played their songs, with the other man doing backup. Crowd pleasers included Charette’s “Yellow Bus” and “Alligator in the Elevator” and Duquette’s “Love is Contagious” and “Superhero,” encouraging audience participation with hand movements to specific parts of the songs.

Four-year-old Ava Albee of Saco couldn’t wait to get up and dance, and ran up to the front of the auditorium. Her mother, Danica Albee, said Ava was a huge fan of Charette.

Soon, Ava was joined by a sea of happy youngsters moving around to their favorite children’s songs.

Seven-year-old Arianna Therrien enjoyed the show, and said her favorite Charette song is “I Love Mud.” Her mother, April Therrien, said she enjoyed the show as well.

“I love listening to him. He’s fantastic. It’s a breath of fresh air to hear songs like this,” she said.

Saco Bay Center for Civic Engagement President Justin Chenette, who is also a digital advertising executive at the Journal Tribune, said the group met its goal of $1,500 from the event, so there will be $500 available for each of the three school communities to apply for next year.
