DURHAM — Rabbit Road has reopened after being closed several hours when a vehicle crashed into a utility pole Wednesday.

Durham Fire and Rescue was called to the area of 102 Rabbit Road just after 7:30 p.m. According to a news release, the vehicle left the road and struck a telephone pole, bringing down wires before rolling onto its side.

Firefighters cut the driver free. The driver, who was the only occupant, was taken to Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

According to Central Maine Power Co.’s website, there were 314 customers without power in Durham as of 10 p.m. No outages were reported shortly after midnight.

The entire length of the Rabbit Road was closed while crews rescued the driver and repaired the power lines.

No information was available as to the identity or status of the driver, or whether the driver will be charged.

Rabbit Road has been the scene of a number of serious and sometimes deadly crashes in recent years.

In August 2016, a driver was ejected after losing control of her vehicle near the intersection of Hallowell Road.

The following month, two people were killed in a collision between a dump truck and pickup truck at the intersection of Rabbit Road and Hallowell Road.

In December 2016, two were hospitalized following a crash at the same intersection.

And last month, a 42-year-old Phippsburg was airlifted to Central Maine Medical Center and transported to Maine Medical Center after her vehicle struck a truck hauling a horse trailer at the intersection of Route 136.
