SACO — A few of the figures of the Christmas manger nativity scene in front of Most Holy Trinity Church have been reported stolen.

Most Holy Trinity, located at 271 Main St., is a Catholic church and part of the Good Shepherd Parish.

Deputy Police Chief Jack Clements said police were contacted by the church on Wednesday, Dec. 27, reporting three plastic resin figures were stolen from the manger display in front of the church.

Clements said surveillance video from the church showed the religious statuettes were stolen around 6:15 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 26. He said police could not identify who stole the items from the footage because of the quality of the video.

“I can’t imagine stealing from a church,” said Clements. He said though the figures might not have had a lot of monetary value, they had a lot of social value.

Church receptionist Alex Swetz said church officials became aware of the theft after the church custodian drove past the church and noticed some of the figures in the nativity display missing. Swetz said the Mary and Joseph figures were stolen, along with one or two sheep.

Swetz said the baby Jesus figure was stolen earlier, and he’s heard from church officials that the baby Jesus figure had been stolen in previous years.
