AUGUSTA (AP) — The Maine labor department says hundreds of unemployment claimants are having trouble receiving payments as the state rolls out a new system.
Maine Department of Labor Spokeswoman Laura Hudson said many individuals aren’t correctly certifying that they’re looking for jobs each week. Some individuals hadn’t received benefits at all, but the department said it’s since processed benefits.
The department says it’s extended customer service telephone support through this week to help individuals work with a new claim system.
The state says it’s been receiving help from an official in Mississippi, which is part of the four-state unemployment insurance consortium along with Maine, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Mississippi has experienced similar issues, but Maine officials hope the system will be more stable in the long run.
