Lately, I find myself to be particularly annoyed with something being built in Old Orchard Beach. Those of you who live in Old Orchard or Saco will most likely know exactly what I am talking about.

The culprit is… Dunkin’ Donuts.

First of all, I do not understand why another Dunkin’ Donuts is being built considering there is two in Saco and a seasonal one located in Old Orchard. Not to mention, there are a few in the neighboring towns of Biddeford and Scarborough.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not irritated with the fact that another is being built, but annoyed with its location, the poor design of the new traffic patterns, and how long it is taken to be built.

For instance, the location of the new building is sat on the end of the highway going into Old Orchard, right before Smithwheel Rd, a well-traveled street. I am having a hard time understanding who thought of the idea to put a popular chain in the worst spot possible.

Given that Old Orchard is very small, there is not many places to build on. Generally speaking, the new Dunkin’ is still highly unnecessary in the first place.

What irks me the most about this project is the fact that the new traffic patterns will most likely confuse visitors and result in some unfortunate events to happen. Personally, everytime I cross paths with the new intersection, all I can think about is how a car is going to flip over one of the islands being built by either turning into Dunkin’ or coming off the highway over the speed limit posted. It is an accident waiting to happen and I would hate to see anyone get hurt over this matter.

Now, let’s take a moment to praise the glory that is the mighty Dunkin’ Donuts. Hope you didn’t get too excited over this new location being built, because at this rate, I will be eighteen by the time the building is finished!

If I am not mistaken, Dunkin’ Donuts has been under construction since before the start of the new Krispy Kreme in Saco being under construction. I also attest that Krispy Kreme took way less time to be built, as there is no denying it’s deliciousness standing before us with hundreds of customers visiting on the daily.

Not to diss Dunkin’, but why is it taken so long to be built when it has been in the works longer than the Krispy Kreme?

Is it because of the new, yet terrible traffic patterns that had to be arranged?

Or is it the fact that the building was started from scratch, meaning the foundation had to be poured?

Whatever reason for it taking so long to be built, it certainly isn’t doing any favors to those who live in the community?

Time will tell, as there have been both positive and negative views regarding the subject.

All we have to do is wait and see what this edition of the popular chain has to offer!

That’s only if it is finished anytime soon.
