AUGUSTA (AP) — Attorney General Janet Mills says the state remains on a record pace for drug overdoses.
Declaring that Maine’s “opioid epidemic continues to rage,” Mills said Wednesday that new figures for the first nine months of the year indicate the number of drug overdoses stood at 174. She says that puts the state on pace to finish the year with between 230 to 240 deaths, surpassing last year’s record of 208.
Mill said she’s heartened by the response from state leaders who want to solve the problem of deaths fueled by heroin, Fentanyl and other opioids.
Gov. Paul LePage has asked lawmakers to make a bill to fund more drug agents their top priority when they return to work next week.
