SANFORD — Quick action by the occupant to call 911 and get out of the house left firefighters able to attack a fire quickly at 388 Twombley Road Wednesday evening, knowing there was no one inside.
Capt. Paul Dubois said the fire was confined, for the most part, to the basement of the ranch style home in the more rural section of Twombley Road, with some small extension into the first floor. The first floor also has some water damage, he said.
The fire was reported at 6:05 p.m. and firefighters were able to leave just before 8 p.m.
“The crews did a fantastic job,” said Dubois. “They had it under control quickly.”
The cause is under investigation by Sanford Fire Marshal Patrick Cotter.
Dubois said the resident did the right thing by quickly calling 911 and getting outside. Firefighters know there were smoke alarms inside the dwelling because they heard them sounding as they arrived.
No one was injured.
Dubois said firefighters sounded a first alarm, which means mutual aid was needed only for station coverage and not fighting the fire. Alfred, Kennebunk, Lebanon and Wells covered the city’s three stations.
According to the city’s online records, the property is owned by Yvette Lapierre.
