Travelers heading southbound on the Maine Turnpike on Sunday, Nov. 29 could experience some delays in the vicinity of the York River Bridge at mile 5.
Maine Turnpike Authority spokeswoman Erin Courtney said between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., when traffic is expected to be the heaviest, there could be congestion southbound in the mile 5 area. She urged motorists to use caution when approaching the area and be prepared to slow down.
Courtney said the bridge is down to two lanes currently as part of an ongoing rehabilitation project which includes a new bridge wearing surface, deck and pile jacket repairs, and concrete repairs to the substructure. The bridge is expected to be back to three southbound lanes at some point next week. Northbound, currently three lanes are available during peak travel times and work continues when traffic allows for temporary lane closures.
