SACO — Police are advising the public to avoid the area around the intersection of Buxton Road (Route 112) and Rocky Hill Road or expect delays for much of today as utility crews cope with the aftermath of a tractor trailer crash.
Saco Deputy Police Chief Jeffrey Holland said the driver of the rig, which was hauling water, sustained non-lifethreatening internal injuries. Iman Mohammed, 33, of South Portland was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford and later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to Holland.
The deputy police chief said speed is considered one of the factors that caused the 3:20 a.m. crash, which took place near 360 Buxton Road. The truck was traveling outbound, toward Saco, when the driver lost control and rolled the rig over. The trailer came to rest against a utility pole. Holland said some of the truck’s load was lost in the culvert.
Saco police, with the assistance of the Maine State Police Commercial Unit, are investigating the crash.
The tractor trailer truck has been removed from the scene, but Holland at press time said crews will be working much of the day to replace the utility pole.
He said the road is open, with one lane clear, but that it may be closed intermittently today for utility work.
He said motorists are advised to seek alternate routes or be prepared for what could be lengthy delays.
