SACO — Roland “Ron” Michaud has been elected the next mayor of Saco.

In a three-way race with current Mayor Don Pilon and former City Councilor Bette Brunswick, Michaud won with 45 percent of the vote. Michaud received 1,631 votes, Pilon 1,121 votes and Brunswick 745 votes.

Michaud, 68, served as mayor previously for two terms, for a total of four years. He also served on the City Council for 14 years and on the Regional School Unit 23 board for three years.

“I’m honored,” said Michaud Tuesday night at the community center, after the votes had been tallied.

Michaud said during his run for office that he wanted to bring a positive focus and bring back a more collaborative atmosphere.

He said Tuesday night he was enthusiastic about serving.

“I think we’re on the cusp of some very good changes,” he said.

Pilon said he still planned to be active in the community.

Pilon served as a state representative from 2004- 2012 before becoming Mayor of Saco in 2013.

Pilon said he was going to “take a couple of years off,” then probably run for office again, but didn’t specify what seat.
