ARROWSIC -Arrowsic voters elected Walter Briggs as their newest selectman Thursday night at a special town meeting.
The selectman position opened up in October when Selectman Bill Savedoff announced he would resign at the end of the year for personal reasons.
Savedoff has just started his second three-year term as a selectman after being elected at the June town meeting. During his time in office, Savedoff worked to reorganize the town office and attract new employees to the small town of about 400 residents Savedoff’s effort led to the creation of four new part-time positions that can be combined as well as small raises for existing employees.
Briggs was the only person to announce that he would be running for selectman before the town meeting. Briggs is the owner of Briggs Advertising, Inc. in Bath, and once served on the town’s school committee before the creation of Regional School Unit 1, of which Arrowsic part.
The new selectman will take up his position on Jan. 1. Briggs will serve the remained of Savedoff’s three-year term on the three-person board.
