OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Town Manager Larry Mead has been hired on for another two years.
The Town Council, with Chairman Shawn O’Neil absent, voted unanimously last week to approve a new contract with Mead.
The contract is effective March 16, 2016 to March 16, 2018, with an annual salary of $114,000 retroactive to July 1, 2015, a pay increase of nearly $7,000 a year. Mead began as town manager in September of 2013.
“I’ve been very pleased with Larry, and the work he’s done for the town,” said Town Councilor Joseph Thornton at the Oct. 20 Town Council meeting. He said he hasn’t heard any negative comments from anyone regarding Mead’s performance.
“This is an easy vote for me,” said Thornton.
Mead said he was “blessed” with having a good council and staff that helped him effectively carry out his job.
Mead underwent a personnel evaluation, which is required by the town charter, during executive sessions with the Town Council on Oct. 6 and 20 prior to his contract renewal.
