From the Journal Tribune: “Back when the old Arundel landfill on Whitten Hill Road was closed, a landfill was still called a dump. That was more than 30 years ago. On Friday, employees of the Arundel Highway and Public Works departments finished the closure, 30 years later. They seeded the ground, spread hay and pushed wood bark mulch along overgrown paths to excavated pits once filled with old refrigerators and other appliances.”

50 years ago

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Biddeford and Saco sales clerks will receive an opportunity to attend a school in sales promotional work starting Nov. 3, according to John Gibson. A five week course on retail salesmanship will be offered to present employees and others interested in obtaining employment, either during the Christmas holidays or as new workers.”

100 years ago

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “There are rumors, apparently authentic, to the effect that the power station at South Bewrwick now leased by the Twin State Gas & Electric company of Dover, N.H., with a capacity of approximately 200 kilowats will be taken over by the concerners, the White Mountain Paper Company. According to the rumors this plant will be utilized in connection with their other facilities for the manufacture of munitions of war.”
