From the Journal Tribune: “Though most motorists would drive by it without a second thought, an old white house in downtown Biddeford is making a big difference for those who are homeless in the twin city area. The Maine Way, Inc., a local non-profit organization, purchased the home at 73 South St. three years ago with plans to renovate it as transitional housing. Last Tuesday, the group opened the South Street house to its community partners to share the accomplishment.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Saco’s street department is starting fall planting of 25 maple trees which were donated last spring, according to City Clerk Robert J. Fenderson. … With the completion of this year’s project, 50 young trees have been set out to take the place of elm trees which were cut down and destroyed because of Dutch Elm disease.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “The Saco shoeshop proposition is being pushed as rapidly as possible. The foundation work is well along and is about ready for the carpenter work to begin. There has been some inquiry as to why the carpenter work has not been started, but the delay has been due to certain changes of plan that the Sears-Roebuck company desired and which would have to be made before the work could start.”
