AUBURN — Visiting Sanford totaled 477 yards and held the lead from start to finish in a 41- 25 victory over Edward Little in a Class A football game at Walton Field Friday. Keith Kerrigan got the ball rolling for the Spartans (3- 3), as he rumbled in from 20 yards out to make it 7- 0 in the second quarter. Sam Anderson returned a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown to increase Sanford’s lead to 13- 0. The Red Eddies (2- 4) then cut that lead in half on a 70- yard pitch- and- catch from Matt Verrill to Tyler Blanchard. The teams traded off 40- yard scoring plays, with Zach Kang running for a Sanford score before Verrill and Blanchard hooked up again for an EL TD. Pete Hegarty ran in from 4 yards out to put Sanford up 28- 13 at the half. That lead grew to 35- 13 by the end of the third quarter, as Hegarty had another 4- yard touchdown run. Verrill sandwiched a pair of touchdown passes around a 3- yard touchdown run for Sanford’s Anderson for the final scores. Verrill’s strikes went to Blanchard and Isaac Cote, respectively. Hegarty ran 28 times for 150 yards, Kang added 69 on six carries, and Kerrigan 65 on seven carries for the Spartans, who compiled their 477 yards on just 67 offensive plays.
