PORTLAND (AP) — A former state lawmaker who was previously imprisoned for equity skimming has been sentenced to 13 months in prison for his role in aiding and abetting visa and marriage fraud.
Adam Mack, of Portland, pleaded guilty in March to federal charges for his role in a scheme to let women from Russia and Ukraine stay in the country illegally, and to arranging a bogus wedding to help them obtain green cards. He also made false statements regarding his employment of them.
The 39-year-old Mack, a Republican member of the House from 1997 to 2000, was also sentenced on Wednesday to four months in prison for violating terms of release. He was convicted in 2013 of improperly spending money used to secure federally subsidized loans.
