BATH- A local woman called the fire department Sunday afternoon when she saw her neighbor climbing out the window of their apartment building as she pulled into the driveway.
The three occupants who were home at the time smelled smoke and self-evacuated by the time crews arrived at 22 Bailey St. around 2:18 p.m., Capt. Rick Chipman said. One man was immediately transported Maine Medical Center in Portland, but Chipman could not comment on the state of the man’s injuries or his current condition.
Firefighters from Brunswick, Topsham, Woolwich, Phippsburg and West Bath responded to the scene.
The fire destroyed one apartment in the building, but the others were fine, and were safe to move back into by Sunday evening, Chipman said.
The Fire Marshal’s office is investigating, but a cause has not yet been released.
