AUGUSTA
Gov. Paul LePage is gearing up to formally announce that he’s seeking another term as Maine governor.
Tonight’s event at Buker Community Center in Augusta will officially launch the Republican governor’s bid for another four years in the Blaine House. The event is being held a year to the day before the 2014 election.
LePage’s campaign says that, among those speaking at the event, is a Democratic voter supporting LePage this election and Maine Republican Party Chairman Rick Bennett.
LePage is being challenged by Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, D-2nd District, who announced Monday that he is gay following what he called a “whisper campaign” by political opponents hoping to weaken his bid.
Independent candidate Eliot Culter, who lost a tight race to LePage in 2010, is also seeking the seat.
