STANDISH — The Freeport High School cross country teams competed in the Western Maine Conference Championships Friday at St. Joseph’s College.
The girls had the best showing, taking the runnerup spot in Division 1, 31-51 to Falmouth.
Top Freeport runners included Sydney Ambrose (3rd, 20:51), Elly Bengtsson (6, 21:06), Bethanie Knighton (13, 21:28), Chloe Hight (21, 22:07) and Emily Jennings (22, 22:08).
Heather Evans of York took the top spot in 20:21.
In the boys meet, Cape Elizabeth won Division I honors with 38 points to beat out Falmouth (53), while Freeport was fifth with 121 points.
Top-five runners for Freeport included Chandler Vincent (5th, 17:11), Tyler Frey (28, 18:40), Austin Williams (34, 18:49), Mark Donahue (40, 19:20) and Matthew Francis (46. 19:33).
Next up for the Falcons is the Western B Regional Saturday at Twin Brook in Cumberland.
