AUGUSTA (AP) — The former executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine has filed paperwork to run for U.S. Senate.

Shenna Bellows tweeted a photo of herself Tuesday outside the Muskie Building in Augusta, declaring she’d filed paperwork necessary to become a candidate.

She’ll be seeking the Democratic Party nomination to challenge three-term Republican incumbent U.S. Sen. Susan Collins.

Bellows, 38, a Manchester lawyer, resigned from the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine a little more than a week ago, saying she’d just gotten married and wanted to embark on a new adventure with her husband. Now it’s clear that her adventure includes her first run for elected office.
