OLD ORCHARD BEACH (AP) — The fate of Kate’s Homemade Butter is in the hands of the Old Orchard Beach Town Council, which is scheduled to meet Tuesday to discuss whether to revoke the butter company’s license.
Kate’s has operated in a residential neighborhood for 30 years, but as the business has grown, so have complaints from neighbors about trucks rumbling down the streets.
In June, the council ordered the butter business to leave by Sept. 30.
Kate’s Homemade Butter intends to move operations to a bigger location in Arundel, but construction delays have postponed the move and the owner has asked to stay in the current location until Feb. 1.
Town Manager Larry Mead said he hopes the sides can reach an agreement.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
