Nichols makes six saves in college loss
POULTNEY, Vt. — Middlebury College had nine players notch a goal on the ledger as the Panthers men’s soccer team cruised to a 10-0 victory over Green Mountain College in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Eagles Game Field.
Middlebury improved to 3-0, while Green Mountain fell to 0-4.
Green Mountain goaltender Sam Nichols had six saves in the cage for the Eagles, who visit Bard on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Brunswick JV girls soccer earns a win
TOPSHAM — A “Battle of the Bridge” game on Tuesday produced points as the Brunswick High School jayvee girls soccer team came away with a 2-0 win over rival Mt. Ararat.
The Dragons improved to 5-0.
Charlotte MacMillan and Emily Larochelle scored for Brunswick, while goaltender Maddie Brescia had several saves.
Shipbuilders earn 2-1 JV girls soccer victory
BATH — Julia Cliffe and Marija Medenica each scored a goal as the Morse High School jayvee girls soccer team slipped past Medomak Valley, 3- 1, on Tuesday on McMann Field.
Cliffe’s goal came in the opening half to give the Shipbuilders a 1-0 lead at the break.
Medomak Valley tallied a goal late in regulation to tie the game, but the Shipbuilders answered as Medenica struck for her second goal off an assist from Rosa Atienz.
Madeline Mitchell was strong in the midfield for Morse, while the Shipbuilder defense played well.
Sugg boys roll past Richmond, 4-0
LISBON FALLS — The Sugg Middle School boys soccer team opened its season with a 4-0 victory over Richmond on Tuesday.
DJ Douglass opened the scoring for the Greyhounds (1-0). A Douglass direct kick with three minutes left until halftime was headed in by teammate Jack Tibbetts for a 2-0 Sugg advantage at the break.
Midfielders Mason Phillips and Neil Larochelle controlled the midfield for Sugg, with Larochelle netting the third Greyhounds goal. Douglass later scored his second.
The Sugg defensive unit of Jacob George and Seth Dyer stopped most Richmond runs, and Greyhound goaltender Levi Levesque turned aside four shots for the shutout.
Sugg visits Maranacook today.
Mt. Ararat JV boys soccer edged by Dragons
BRUNSWICK — The Mt. Ararat High School jayvee boys soccer team suffered a close 1-0 defeat at the hands of Brunswick on Tuesday.
Eagle goaltenders Elliot Bowie (seven saves), Jacob Laurence (two saves) and Blair Kopp (two saves) combined on 11 stops.
Playing well for Mt. Ararat were Ryan Rethi, Codie Fee, Kelton Rose, Owen Kelly and Maximo Varella.
The Eagles host Skowhegan today.
Bowdoin’s Meagher to be honored
WATERVILLE — The Maine Sports Legends will honor 10 individuals into the “Hall of Honors” on Oct. 4 at the Alfond Youth Center.
Inductees have been selected by regional committees to recognize their accomplishments and contributions to youth and sports in Maine.
Also, eight scholar athletes, one male and one female from each of four regions, will receive scholarships at the ceremony.
Bowdoin College men’s hockey coach Terry Meagher will be honored this year. Meagher, who will begin his 33rd season leading the Polar Bears, has a career coaching mark at Bowdoin of 529-245-54. Along with former coach and Meagher predecessor Sid Watson (326 wins), Bowdoin is the only Division III team with two 300-win coaches.
The banquet will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 4. Tickets are $40 each and must be purchased by Saturday.

Along with Meagher, longtime Maine Sports Legends supporter and Bath native Ed Marchetti will be honored. The Colby College graduate served in the U.S. military and was the former president of Proctor and Gamble in Boston.
Brunswick JV Orange girls earn soccer tie
BRUNSWICK — Libby Fairbanks lofted a shot from about 22-yards out with under three minutes left in regulation to give the Brunswick High School girls jayvee Orange soccer team a 1-1 tie with Camden Hills on Wednesday.
The Windjammers struck first in the opening minutes of the game, but the Dragons began to push the play.
Brunswick received solid play from the backfield of Holly Black and Zoe Battle, while Bridgett Smith was strong in the midfield.
Brunswick 8th boys soccer opens with win
BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick Junior High School boys eighth-grade soccer team opened its 2015 season with a convincing 5-2 victory over Oak Hill on Wednesday.
Everett Horch exploded for a hat trick in the win, while Josh Musica netted a pair of goals. Assists came from Alec Hess, Horch and Musica. The Huskies received steady goaltending from Liam Hemberger and Coenradt Taylor, who also contributed nicely at center-midfield. Solid defending was turned in by Huskies Connor Ney, Josh Guptill, Elliot Slocum and James Belanger, while aggressive attacking play came from Hakon Lentz and Matty Laforge.
Oak Hill received a pair of goals from Enoch Taylor, while Raiders goaltender Cole Whitten had several saves. Also standing out for Oak Hill were Osborn Boston and Reese Collins.
Brunswick visits rival Mt. Ararat today.
