To the Editor:

The mission of a Governor’s Account Executive is to work collaboratively across state government to help resolve business-related issues and to listen for opportunities that may exist to make meaningful changes to Maine’s economic delivery system.

Maine’s Chambers of Commerce, on the other hand, serve to promote business growth and success throughout the state.

The similarities and differences in our missions and in our access to resources make us natural partners in helping Maine businesses create jobs.

For me, the Chambers are my eyes and ears in the business community. They are always apprised of the latest business issues and what is going on with their members. This exposure makes connecting with a local business to get them the help they need much easier for me and, in turn, gives the Chambers a single point of contact to turn to if they have a business in need of assistance. The result is a win-win-win for the Chambers, the state, and, most importantly, the business community.

Chambers of Commerce provide a valuable resource to their communities. I work with more than a dozen Chambers, in Cumberland, Sagadahoc and York counties, attending breakfasts, luncheons and after-hours events to share information about available state resources.

As a Governor’s Account Executive, I have unmatched access to government officials and resources. Using the highlevel contacts in all state agencies, I can make sure the needs of businesses are not lost in the often cumbersome bureaucracy, and make suggestions for changes that could benefit a business.

Our actions have produced clear and positive results for the business community.

Maine businesses need strong advocates in private and public sectors that can help support growth, and that’s what they get when the Chambers and Governor’s Account Executives work together.
