WOOLWICH — The Kennebec Estuary Land Trust will host Maine Master Naturalist volunteer Alan Seamans Saturday, June 23 at 10 a.m. as he discusses ferns at Merrymeeting Fields Preserve. This free event is geared for adults and children 10 years old and older. Seamans will lead walkers on how to read the fern’s frond (or leaf) to get clues for identification, to observe the variety of mechanisms ferns employ to disperse their spores and to discover the ferns’ role in a forest or field habitat.
This is a light rain or shine event and registration is encouraged at kennebecestuary.org or (207) 442-8400. The walk is sponsored by the Merrymeeting Bay Trust, Bath Savings Trust Company, and First Federal Savings.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
