BATH

A petition drive to recall the majority of Bath’s City Council starts Monday at the home of Michael Wischkaemper.

Bath residents Wischkaemper and Larry Scott are spearheading the drive, owing to their frustration over the way the sale of the former Bath Hospital was handled since citizens became aware of it in April.

At a meeting on Wednesday, councilors declined to waive confidentiality to allow an investigator to ask questions about events that took place during an executive session Feb. 6.

It was the latest in a series of votes some residents felt was an effort to suppress information about the sale, how the asking price was determined, how the buyer became aware of the property being marketed when it was never officially on the Multiple Listing Services, and other issues.

In an email Thursday night, Scott wrote, “Today I went to the city clerk’s office and advised them that I intend to seek the recall of the city councilors. I need your help in getting the necessary signatures to move this to the election process. It would still allow them to run again, but they would have to stand for election and on their record.”

Scott said that petitions would be available Monday night for any Bath resident willing to collect signatures. The meeting is at 5 p.m., 17 York St.
