George B. Davis, 64, passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2013, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine. He was born on June 25, 1949, in Boothbay Harbor, to the late Robert and Geraldine Davis.
Growing up he attended local schools and was a graduate of Boothbay Harbor Regional High School.
Joining the work force after high school he spent most of his working life digging clams and painting houses. He loved both of these jobs as they afforded him the opportunity to work outside, something he enjoyed and was important to him. His work ethic was evident by the career he chose. He was a hard worker and knew the value of a day’s worth of work. For the past 6 years he worked at Wal-Mart in Cook’s Corner.
He loved basketball and was a member of the high school team that won the Western Maine Championship in 1967 and 1968. A fan of NASCAR he could be found cheering for Dale Earnhardt Sr., then later on for Tony Stewart.
Always a friendly person, he often came to the harbor to visit family and made sure he got to see all of his friends in the area, something that often took a few hours to accomplish. Usually the last one to leave a party, George never wanted to miss a thing. Always sociable, he would carry on a conversation with anyone and after one conversation you were friends. It was this trait that led him to friendships with Jimmy Buffett and Frank Zappa.
George was an honest and hardworking gentleman, who instilled these values in his children from a young age. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by his brother and his sister.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years Penny Davis of Bath, ME; sons Derek Anderson and his wife Kristy of Boothbay, ME, Christopher Davis of Bath, ME, and Michael Davis of Bath, ME; sister Sally Davis Sherman of Boothbay Harbor, ME; grandchildren Mackaelynn and Abigail of Boothbay Harbor, ME, and Celena Davis of Bath, ME.
