To the Editor:
I am writing on behalf of Eloise Vitelli, who is running for Senate District 19 in the election Tuesday, Aug. 27.
I have known Eloise for over 12 years, mostly in nonwork activities. During this time, we have participated together, in a weekly class. Eloise has always impressed me with her ability to be centered, clear, focused, intelligent, balanced, willing to challenge herself. Eloise will bring these wonderful qualities to the Senate.
Imagine a senator who is not easily “thrown off course,” who is rational, smart, who can be present to all sides yet is focused on what is best for Maine people.
Eloise’s life has been about service to Maine people. Her resume shows a career that is all about working to create opportunities for others.
Eloise does not just talk about job creation. She has been actively doing it for over 33 years through Women, Work and Community.
Recently, Eloise was endorsed by the Maine Education Association, Maine State Employees Union, Legislative Leadership Council of Local 6 BIW and Maine People’s Alliance.
Workers, middle-class people, those who teach children, advocates for low-income folks, all support Eloise Vitelli. If she gets this opportunity, we will not regret it.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
