WISCASSET

Contrary to some reports, It was not a high speed chase Wednesday that led to the arrest of two men accused of armed robbery at a Union residence.

Chief Deputy Tim Carroll of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said today that law-enforcement officers from the Lincoln County and Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s offices, as well as Marine Patrol, assisted in pursuing the car for approximately two miles after the vehicle failed to stop. Eventually the operator did stop on his own, in Wiscasset.

A Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy arrested Paul Milardo, 40, of Thomaston and David Williams Junior of Middletown, Ct., on charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault. They also face charges of theft of drugs.

More charges may be pending with further investigation, Carroll said.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported armed robbery at a residence on the Common Rd. in Union that was called into Knox County Regional Communications Center at approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Carroll said that the victim told deputies that someone had just forced his way into his apartment with a gun, struck him in the head, forced the victim into his bathroom, locked the door and demanded money and drugs. There was a friend also at the residence, but had left with the suspect, police said.

Upon arrival, deputies received information that the alleged suspects had left in a white Nissan sedan. Further investigation revealed a possible license plate on the vehicle. The information was immediately passed onto other agencies.

A short time later, the suspect vehicle was located, heading south on U.S. Route 1, Carroll said.
A Lincoln County Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle and a chase ensued, Carroll said. The chase lasted a few miles before ending safely in Wiscasset.
