YORK (AP) — Police say a man who at first threatened to harm himself with a pellet gun led officers on a chase from Maine into New Hampshire and back, until he was stopped by sheriff ’s deputies.
A caller told police about the threat at a home in West Newfield, Maine, on Wednesday night, but before police arrived, the man fled, saying he was armed and would use his weapons against police.
The man drove west toward Wakefield, New Hampshire. Police tried to stop him, but the chase continued and ended up back in York County, where the car was stopped by spike mats.
The man, identified as 29- year-old Kevin Fortin of Newfield, has been charged with eluding a police officer and aggravated reckless conduct. Fortin was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday; it wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.
