SWAN’S ISLAND (AP) — The Coast Guard is searching for a kayaker who went missing near Swan’s Island.
Authorities say 18-yearold Jackson Day was last seen around 10 a.m. Tuesday leaving the island in an eight-foot kayak.
The Coast Guard’s South Portland command center received a call from Day’s mother informing them that he was overdue from his trip.
A Coast Guard spokesman says Day is a summer resident of the island.
They launched a search Tuesday night using two life boats out of Southwest Harbor and a helicopter. The Maine Marine Patrol and the Hancock County Sheriff ’s Department are also involved in the search.
Day was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt and shorts. He stands at about 6 feet tall, weighing 160 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes.
