The driver of the last car moving won $1,000 and a large trophy, this year going to first-time derby competitor Riese Davis, 18, of Bowdoinham, shown in the top photo. Prior to the derby, Davis bought the last car left in the auction for $180 — a Saturn which he laughed about — to participate in Saturday’s event. The winnings were great, but Davis said he really just wanted to smash cars. “It’s crazy during the derby and you are full of adrenaline,” he said, attributing his win to beginner’s luck.
