PORTLAND — Catcher Matt Spring led off the bottom of the seventh with a homer, snapping a 2-2 tie and giving Portland (54-54) a 3-2 win over the Harrisburg Senators (59-50) on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field.
Noe Ramirez closed out the win with two scoreless frames, earning his second Double-A save. Ramirez fanned Jimmy VanOstrand to end the game.
Portland’s pitchers battled all afternoon, holding the Senators 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position and stranding 11 baserunners. Starter Terry Doyle worked five innings on eight hits, one run, three walks and four strikeouts.
Harrisburg took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. With one out, Ricky Hague doubled and scored on a two-out double by Brian Jeroloman.
Portland answered in the third with two runs. Tony Thomas delivered a sacrifice fly and Garin Cecchini scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.
Carlos Rivero tied the game in the seventh inning with a two-out, run-scoring single off Kehrt.
