Doug McIntire has been hired as a full-time staff reporter for The Times Record.

Raised in Brunswick, McIntire attended local schools and grew up mostly in McKeen Street Navy housing. Following the three generations before him, he joined the Navy shortly after graduating from high school where he served as an air traffic controller. After leaving the Navy, McIntire became a woodworker and restoration expert in Virginia before moving to Aroostook County where he attended the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

McIntire returned to southern Maine where he completed his BA in English and went on to teach at a private school for the next nine years while working first as a freelance writer, then a cops beat and general assignment reporter at the Sun Journal. After working briefly at the Morning Sentinel in Waterville, McIntire returned home to Brunswick to write about the people and places he loves the most.

“Doug’s skills as a reporter, a deep knowledge of the Brunswick area and practical life experience are some of the most desireable qualities you can ask for in a reporter,” said Managing Editor John Swinconeck. “We are thrilled to have him on board.”

McIntire began his duties Monday. He will primarily cover the towns of Brunswick and Freeport, as well as the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority.
