LEWISTON — On Friday the Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade softball team faced Lewiston and came away with a 12-4 win.

Gabby West (three innings) and Megan Reed (four) shared pitching duties and combined to throw a nohitter. West struck out three, with no walks and no runs. Reed struck out eight and walked five.

Mt. Ararat started the game with a home run by Jazzy Huntsman, who was hot all day both offensively and defensively at shortstop. She also chipped in two singles, scored two runs and made several solid plays, including sprinting in behind the pitcher to field a ground ball and throwing crisply to first for the final out of the game to secure the win.

Reed’s bat was also hot, she got a single, double and triple. West smacked a home run and chipped in a single, Sydney Stewart finished with two hits, including a triple, and Tori Hersey, Avery Giles and Kaylee Bergeron added singles to the Eagles win. Reed and Stewart also scored twice.

Tied 4-4 in the sixth, Reed smacked a single, and stole second and third, Morgan Ruff was hit by a pitch and stole second. Hersey walked, then Stewart hit a single to knock in two runs. With two outs, Bergeron and Huntsman kept the inning and scoring going by each getting singles to give the Eagles another four-run lead.

Emily Bontatibus played well at both catcher and first, and Lillie Singleton had several nice outs at first base. West at catcher made some fine stops, and Bergeron and Jayden Austin made some solid plays at second.

Mt. Ararat is home on Tuesday and Thursday.
