Freeport police say a motorcyclist from North Yarmouth has died from his injuries after colliding with a truck Friday afternoon at the intersection of Desert Road and the Interstate 295 exit 20 southbound off ramp.
The crash was reported at approximately 3:15 p.m. Freeport police say 24-year-old Matthew MacMillian of North Yarmouth was driving a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle northwest on Desert Road when he collided with a truck towing a trailer.
The truck, a 2014 Toyota pickup, was pulling onto Desert Road from the I-295 southbound off-ramp when the collision occurred. It was driven by Jonathan Thomas, 63, of Cumberland.
MacMillian sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead some time after arriving at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
“The occupants of the truck were shaken up but not injured,” a press release states.
The crash is being reconstructed by a Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Deputy. The Desert Road overpass was closed to traffic for several hours after the crash while police investigated. That investigation is ongoing.
