EDGECOMB — Alan Ray Thomas, 63, of Edgecomb, died unexpectedly at home on Friday, July 12, 2013.

He was born in Bath, ME on July 13, 1949, to Ray and Lois Thomas of River Road, Woolwich, as the second of three children. He graduated from Morse High in 1969 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served in the Vietnam war on the USS Enterprise as a firefighter.

He was honorably discharged in 1973 and married Deborah Lynn Moore in Woolwich on March 8, 1975. Their daughter Amy was born in June of 1975, and their son Andrew in September of 1977. He and Deborah were married until her death in 1996. He met his fiancée June Brault in 2002. Alan worked as a mechanic at Bath Subaru until his retirement in 2011.

Family was the most important thing to Alan but he had many interests. He loved cars, driving, listening to music, and exploring the farm stands and back roads of Mid-coast Maine. (Often, all at the same time.) Alan was a passionate cook and gardener and loved “puttering around” in the kitchen. He learned to cook in the Navy and nothing made him happier than making a huge meal for family and friends.

He is predeceased by his wife, his parents, and his sister Terri Corey of Brewer.

In respect of Alan’s wishes, there will be a small, private ceremony for the family. To share your thoughts and condolences with the family, please visit www.desmondfuneralhomes.com.
