SOUTH PARIS — The Mt. Ararat Middle School seventh grade softball team dropped its season opener on Monday to Oxford Hills, 13-5.
The hosts got off to a good start, scoring four runs in the first inning and three in the third. The Eagles tried to keep things close, scoring three runs in the first three frames. The score remained 7-3 into the fifth when Oxford Hills struck for four more runs for an 11-3 lead.
For the Eagles, Hannah Hawkes and Angel Huntsman each scored twice, Alex Durant and Huntsman were also standouts on defense.
Reagan Robertson went the distance for the Eagles on the mound and pitched well, striking out 12 while only walking two.
Mt. Ararat will travel to Auburn on Wednesday.
