BANGOR (AP) — An Ellsworth man has been convicted of killing his wife on Christmas Day 2013.

WLBZ-TV reports Justice Ann Murray found Christopher Saenz guilty Monday in the death of his wife Hilary Saenz.

During the trial, friends and family testified that Christopher Saenz was physically and mentally abusive.

Saenz maintained his innocence, repeatedly telling investigators that his wife had died after suffering a seizure. But in her ruling, the judge said Hillary Saenz did not have a seizure disorder.

Prosecutors said Saenz beat his wife to death because he believed she was having an affair.

At the time of her death, she had bruises throughout her body in various stages of healing. An autopsy revealed multiple injuries including a lacerated liver, bruised lungs, fractured sternum and brain bleeding.
